1) We hate quiet! Collaboration and learning does not occur in a quiet, sterile environment. The library should be just as busy and vibrant as a classroom. Students should be exploring, creating and discussing. This is the type of environment I hope to cultivate in the library next year.
2) We love collaboration! This directly related to number one. Librarians did not pursue the career that they are in so that they can sit in the library all day hidden behind a desk and lots of books. I personally chose this profession because I am passionate about helping students and teachers learn. I am passionate about literacy and technology and how the two are intertwined. Please remember as the school year starts that I am here as a resource to assist you in any way.
3) We are in an ever-changing field! Just like teachers, we are also in a field that changes constantly. There are new technologies and strategies to explore on a daily basis. Just think about how much more we can explore and learn when we work together.
Your blog looks good. It's easy to follow and not too full of "stuff" that is distracting.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great article, too.
Hi Ms. Scott, I love this article! All three of these highlighted points are essential for the 21st Century Library. Encouraging students to manipulate materials, Librarians collaborating with teachers and seeking new knowledge are of top priority for today's libraries.
ReplyDeleteI see your passion for literacy and technology through your blog and activities planned for the library. I am so excited about collaborating with you this year! I look forward to exploring, planning, and creating lessons and programs for the students at CISD with you!
This is a great post. Love the video that you included about the library and what it can actually become. I am going to include this in my portfolio under Systemic Improvement. The library is so crucial! Thanks for sharing.
