All about Discovery Education

This Wednesday, I am going to spend the entire day teaching about Discovery Education, an awesome tool that is underutilized on most of our campuses.

This resource includes many forms of high quality media that can be used in our classrooms as well as for flipping your classroom. Students are given accounts to log in and all of a sudden you have a virtual classroom.  You can assign students folders of content to explore, writing assignments, quizzes as well as virtual bulletin boards.  Students can turn their work in online and you view and comment right there.

Here is the link to the training site.

For those of you attending, we will wrap up with the following reflection questions:
1.   What level of technology can be reached using the technology tool in this training?  Why? How?
2.  How can your students use the technology tool from this training in your curriculum?

  1. Each level of blooms can be reached. The level reach should be based on the objective of the particular TEK you are using in your lesson. This can be done by integrating a number of web 2.0 apps into your discovery streaming lesson.

This is a great tool to use for research. Instead of students googling and wading through tons of information before finding what is relevant to the lesson, I can choose a clip that is specific to the lesson.

  2. 1. Students can use this technology as a research tool to "create" their own articles of learning (edmodo, online discussions, etc.). They will have access to instruction outside of the classroom which is extremely helpful when students struggle with difficult concepts or when they are absent from school.
    2. Students will be able to use this to enforce learning and as extended resource materials

  3. I believe you can hit all the levels depending on the lesson. For example my students will research, reflect, and create with my lesson. All lessons can be simple focused or higher learning. By using the flip with videos it frees up time in the classroom to be more of a facilitator and allows the students to learn and teach others themselves.
It gives the students a focused area for research keeping them from being overwhelmed by the scope of the web. Can help them to reinforce what is being learned and allows those who have been missing not to fall behind.

  5. 1. The creation level of Bloom's can be achieved using Discovery Education with the board section. Students are creating their own original product based on the tools within Discovery Education.
    2. My students can use this tool by watching introduction videos, taking quizzes, answering writing prompts and creating boards.

  6. I believe with Discovery Education, students can create a fabulous board on any subject! I can picture myself using this tool daily in my classroom - streaming videos to introduce and reinforce learning, making quizzes for the students to assess their learning, and having students research and create boards.

  7. Creating can be reached by students making a prezi, aurazma, or flipping your classroom! I learned that students can use Discovery Education just like teachers can. They can have their own accounts, complete teacher assignments, take quizzes, create boards, and then present them to the class. Awesome training!

  8. All levels of technology can be reached using Discovery Education. This is a great tool that is very user friendly with some practice. I learned a lot of different ways to use this tool today that I didn't even know existed such as students and/or teachers creating boards, quizzes, classes and assignments.
My students will use this technology in a whole/small group setting or with help from a parent at home. If you have an imagination you can use this tool for just about all areas in our curriculum.

  9. This technology training about Discovery Education will be useful in flipped classroom experiences for the students. In this site, students can complete assignments, quizzes, create boards, and watch instructional videos. They can reach the higher levels of Blooms using these activities.
